Committee Profile
I’m Sam, a 2nd year History & Politics student. The LGBT rep role is primarily wefare-related; it’s my job to make sure that queer students have the support they need to thrive at Anne’s. I’m here to provide a non-judgmental, understanding ear to anyone who needs it. In addition, it will be my responsibility to organize events for LGBT students both within college and with other colleges, including movie nights and intercollege dinners (and maybe even a Eurovision celebration!). Finally, I also work with the OUSU LGBTQ campaign as well as the University LGBTQsoc (of which I am the secretary).
While Oxford is generally a very welcoming place, there’s no denying that being L,G,B,T, or Q in a straight world is not always a walk in the park. Queer students often have problems that are peculiar to the LGBTQ community, particularly those that have only recently “come out” or those that are still in the process of coming out. In order to be a more effective resource for those students at St Anne’s and in Oxford I am in training to become a Peer Supporter.
If you have any questions or concerns about queer life at Oxford/St Anne’s (or really anything in general) please don’t hesitate to contact me! |
